Dr. Mikel Sanchez attends medical school at the University of Bordeaux (France) and performs the validation that allows a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of the Basque Country in 1979. Performs specialty Trauma and orthopedic surgery at St. James Hospital in Vitoria-Gasteiz. During this period is responsible for the service of said facial trauma hospital, he takes the doctorate courses and remains attached to the rheumatology and neurosurgery, as additional training to their specialty. He’s a doctor attached to the trauma unit of the hospital until 1986. Is dedicated to the private sector since 1993. In 2000 started his career in the group La Esperanza Clinic USP Hospitals in Vitoria-Gasteiz as medical director and as head of the trauma, orthopedics and arthroscopic surgery. That same year he created the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit (AAU) at the premises of the clinic.
He is a pioneer in the advancement of Arthroscopic Surgery in Europe and Spain. Part of the Working Group Leeds-Keio, Rheumatism Research Unit, University of Leeds, UK and Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Keio University, Japan. The Leeds-Keio group was an Anglo-Japanese collaboration aimed at promoting the development of arthroscopic surgery in Europe and Japan, especially replacement surgery knee ligaments and shoulder.
He has worked with leading figures in the arthroscopy as Hideo Matsumoto and Bahaa Seedhom Botros. He has developed prototypes of surgical instruments for the reconstruction of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament (ACL and PCL) as well as technical and instrumental to treat recurrent shoulder dislocation. These technologies and the functional and biological concepts that underpin currently remain in effect.
Worldwide was the first physician to understand the therapeutic potential of PRP and apply it to the trauma. Is founder UNIT arthroscopic surgery, UCA, AND UNITS BIOLOGICAL THERAPY, UTB Group. He has received numerous awards for his professional work among them: Fundación Mapfre Medicina (2010), Award “Development of Applied Trauma” for its “Innovation in the Treatment of Tendon Injuries,” the Gold Medal of the City of Vitoria 2007 for his work in the world of medicine, sport 2003 Euskadi Prize for his scientific and technical contribution to the development of sport; Third National Award for Research in Sports Medicine at the University of Oviedo in 2002 and 2003 by the application of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF ®-Endoret ®) and its use in the treatment of tendon injuries.

Since 2000 and with Dr. Eduardo Anitua and Biotechnology Institute (BTI) is part of the research and development of numerous applications in Orthopaedics PRGF ®-Endoret ®.
