Prathap Jayaram M.D. is the Director of Regenerative Sports Medicine-PMR division and Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He also holds a secondary appointment in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Jayaram is nationally known for his expertise in regenerative sports medicine & ultrasound. He completed his sports medicine training at Stanford University where he treated collegiate and professional athletes. Dr. Jayaram is a clinician-scientist who specializes in non-operative sports medicine with a focus on advanced ultrasound and regenerative strategies for tendon and cartilage injuries. His medical practice is focused on various sports injuries using diagnostic ultrasound and advanced ultrasound-guided procedures such as adipose derived stem cell therapy & bone marrow aspirate concentrate, platelet rich plasma, and percutaneous sonographically guided tenotomy.

His research focus is to translate the study of tendinopathy and osteoarthritis into a basic understanding of development and establish therapeutic strategies to yield better function. He is currently working with the Genetics Department in Dr. Brendan Lee’s Lab on exploring gene therapy in the context of post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
